It is a truly cinematic experience with a large screen, HD picture and 5.1 surround sound. All ages are welcome, and refreshments will be available throughout the day, with a bar for the evening performance. Donations go to Helping Hands Community Project.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996) (U) (89 mins)
Set in the social unrest of 15th century Paris, this is a classic tale of searching for your place in the world. Quasimodo is the misunderstood and gentle-souled bell ringer of Notre Dame who after years of being hidden away by his cruel master, Judge Claude Frollo, decides to climb down the tower and explore the world outside. Here he meets Esmeralda, Phoebus and many more colourful characters who teach him what it means to love others and be loved in return.
It’s a technicolour reimagining of Victor Hugo’s original 1831 novel and has all the razzle and dazzle we’ve come to expect from classic Disney. It also has a powerful reminder; that monsters come in many guises, making it one of the darker and more richly satisfying films to come out of the Mouse House.
”The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ is the best Disney animated feature since ‘Beauty and the Beast’ – a whirling, uplifting, thrilling story with a heart-touching message that emerges from the comedy and song.’
*Screening at 2pm on Sat 26 Jan 2019. Doors open at 1.30pm.
The Greatest Showman (2017) (PG) (102 mins)
Orphaned, penniless but ambitious and with a mind crammed with imagination and fresh ideas, the American Phineas Taylor Barnum will always be remembered as the man with the gift to effortlessly blur the line between reality and fiction. How? By introducing never-seen-before live acts on the circus stage.
Some will call Barnum’s wide collection of oddities a freak show; however, when the obsessed showman gambles everything on the opera singer Jenny Lind to appeal to a high-brow audience, he will somehow lose sight of the most important aspect of his life: his family. Will Barnum risk it all to be accepted? Released in 2017, The Greatest Showman has smashed box office records and its soundtrack became 2018’s bestselling album.
”The Greatest Showman’ wants to give you a splashy good time, and does, and it’s got something that takes you by surprise: a genuine romantic spirit.’
* Screening at 7pm on Sat 26 Jan 2019. Doors open at 6.30pm.
The Big Picture Show enables communities in Staffordshire and Warwickshire to programme films in local halls and community venues, from family favourites and Hollywood hits to screen classics and new independents.
